Kon-strux Developments was named a Finalist in the 2014 National Home Builders Association SAM Awards competition for this whole house renovation project.
The homeowners wanted to keep the traditional elements of their home, while blending the old with the new in a seamless manner. The renovation we completed for them accomplished this, and more.
This home with traditional styling was updated with a complete renovation of the kitchen. The previous floor plan resulted in a crowded kitchen, small eating area and narrow family room. The renovation opened up the entire space to seamlessly connect the areas, making it ideal for both family living and entertaining. The original tiled floor in the kitchen and carpet in dining room were replaced with beautiful hardwood, blended skillfully with the existing 40 year old hardwood in the living room, for a seamless integration of flooring throughout the entire main floor.
New custom cabinetry was installed in the kitchen, built in the same style and stained to match the existing cabinetry and woodwork that was retained throughout the house, for consistency of finishes. The counter tops are a spectacular high-end granite with feldspar and quartz inclusions. The backsplash is a classic white horizontal subway tile, also installed in a basket weave pattern for a striking feature behind the cooktop. Custom drawers and cabinets were designed to maximize storage and function in the kitchen, including pull-out corner storage, a pull-out spice rack located conveniently beside the cooktop, and a pop-up mixer stand. A custom built-in china cabinet displays the homeowners' finest china, which they use often when entertaining in the adjacent dining room. All cabinetry drawers and doors are soft-closing. A custom built island features a two-inch thick beautifully grained solid walnut butcher block top, and shelves for cookbook storage. Upscale appliances were installed, including a beverage center, two full size wall ovens, an electric warming oven and microwave, an oversized five-element electric cooktop and a custom high capacity exhaust system. Additional custom cabinetry is found in the pantry and storage area of the adjacent laundry/mud room. The laundry counter top is the same granite featured in the kitchen.
In the family room the old wood burning fireplace was replaced with a natural gas fireplace. A granite surround and tile hearth were installed, as well as custom built shelves and cabinet to house electronics.
Existing mahogany doors were kept and re-stained to coordinate with the rest of the woodwork found in the home. All bathrooms were redone, the tile detailing, custom cabinetry style and granite counters continue the flow of consistent finishes throughout the home. The guest powder room features stunning Swarovski crystal taps and 24 karat gold plating on all fixtures including the flush handle on the toilet. Even the smallest of details were considered in completing this renovation for the homeowners.
